The lady and I were once again back up in Berkeley. My favorite place, it's like a trap hobos paradise. Seriously tho, between the weird homeless hippie kids who listen to trap music and the students I always feel like I'm in a different nation.
Anyway I remembered waking past this spot and decided to give it a shot, I usually crave bahn mi so any new place is a must. This is what they offer:
Traditional bahn mi 5
Vietnamese turkey 5
Vietnamese beef 6
Add .50 for card
Tofu for vegetarian
Beef pho bo
Chicken pho ga
Pork pho thit
I was pleasantly surprised, for the price and location the taste was pretty good.
Recommend paying in cash, unless you want to pay the .50 fee -

I decided to give this place another try since Kiwibot had a promotion for this place. Ordered the sliced pork with garlic and spicy sauce. The food is just not great here. The sauce was overwhelming and very liquidy. The water chestnuts were also very undercooked. Ended up throwing away most of my food because I just felt sick afterwards. Only star comes from having a decent amount of sliced pork in there though.
As for the service, it was even worse than the food. I arrived at around the stated time to pick up my food and gave the cashier the name of my order. He told they were really backed up and would take another 15 minutes. Lo and behold it ended up being an extra 30 minutes just standing there. Sure I get that the kitchen can get backed up at times, but being 30 minutes behind is a sign of bigger issues. When I finally got my food, the cashier instead of apologizing just told me to use this waiting time for future reference and to come in later, blaming the app for not allowing him to update waiting times. Side note, you can clearly see the cook making the food out of order as I saw tickets placed after me being made earlier than I was.
Overall not great experiences the couple times I was here. Maybe the dimsum/porridge is better but who knows as I won't be returning. -

Ordered soup dumplings, bbq pork buns and Mongolian Beef. The dumplings and buns are EXACTLY the same as what I used to see at the Lee's Deli near where I work in San Francisco (although they've gotten rid of the soup dumplings and changed their buns). This tells me that these are just purchased frozen from some distributor. It's not that they are terrible, it's just that they are...well, frozen dumplings and buns.
The Mongolian beef was OK, although it lacked a certain depth of flavor I've experienced at other places.
So, in all, it's just an OK place to get cheap food that tastes good (e.g. salty, fatty). I guess that's all it's really trying to be, considering that it's located up on campus. -

It's 11:14, says they're open
"Maybe we'll open at 12:30"
Don't bother unless you want to hang around outside. Super lame -

Decided to leave a review after coming here a second time. The place seems kind of shady, but the food was authentic, delicious, and well worth the price. The staff was friendly and we got our food relatively fast. They do charge an extra fee for credit cards, which is a bit inconvenient, so bring cash if you don't want to pay the fee.
